iPad 3 Parts Put Together on Video, iPad 2 Smart Cover Still Works
Although we've already seen many stories about possible iPad 3 part leaks over the past few weeks, MIC Gadget has been able to get its hands on the
rumored parts for the iPad 3 Front Glass, Rear Shell, and 3rd party cases.
The site put them together in this nice overview video:
The video shows the iPad 3 exterior assembled, but no internal parts. They reiterate previous findings, such as a slightly thicker shell, larger camera lens,
and slightly more tapered design. MIC Gadget, however, was also able to confirm that existing iPad 2 magnetic Smart Covers will work with the new design.
Finally, they found that 3rd party iPad 3 cases which are already available to purchase do match up with the back shell.
The site seems to believe the iPad 3 will incorporate Siri. Apple introduced the Siri voice assistant with the iPhone 4S launch, but hasn't yet extended its support to any other devices.
Apple is expected to announce the iPad 3 at a media event that is taking place on Wednesday, March 7th.
Google Working On Wireless Home Entertainment System
Google is developing a wireless home entertainment system designed to stream music throughout the home, according to a report
from the Wall Street Journal. The system would be marketed under Google's brand and would be based on Google's Android platform. Google has sold a few items under its own name, but has never designed consumer electronics hardware itself. The Google Nexus phone, for example, was made by HTC.
somewhat similar to those made by Sonos, which the New York Times examined in a recent article.
The WSJ gave no indication as to a time-frame for the public announcement or on-sale date for the Google home entertainment products. Apple has a somewhat similar living room strategy, though the company no longer makes any home speaker products -- instead, Apple uses its AirPlay, Airport Express
and Apple TV products as part of its push into the living room. However, in recent months the company has been rumored to be working on a full-fledged
television set.
Apple Releases Two New iPhone 4S Ads: "Road Trip" and "Rock God"
Apple posted two new iPhone 4S television ads to its YouTube account this evening, "Road Trip" and "Rock God". Both ads showcase the various
ways to use the iPhone 4S's Siri functionality to find directions, locate a restaurant, or send text messages.
There have been several other iPhone 4S ads previously. In December, Apple released an iPhone 4S ad featuring Santa Claus using his iPhone 4S
to check the weather and his "schedule" as he delivered toys around the world. In October, just after the iPhone 4S went on sale, Apple aired
an ad called "Assistant" which also featured Siri extensively.
Spigen Protects the iPhone's Screen With More Glass
The iPhone's glass screen may be made of Corning's advanced Gorilla Glass, but, contrary to Steve Jobs' assertion, that doesn't mean it is scratch proof.
Many products exist to solve this problem, including ZAGG's InvisiShield or rugged cases like Otterbox's Defender. Both solutions work well, but the feel of screen protector films bother some users, and though the Otterbox solidly protects the iPhone, it hardly maintains the svelte qualities that Jony Ive and his team worked so hard to create.
As an alternative, Spigen has released a tempered glass screen protector to give an added layer of protection to the iPhone 4S. The 0.4mm thick glass protector completely covers the front glass of the iPhone, protecting it from damage and scratches.
Spigen claims the glass is specially reinforced to increase shock absorbency and is three times stronger than standard protective PET film. As it's tempered glass, if broken, it breaks into smaller pieces that aren't sharp.
