What is a Computer Virus?

A computer Virus is a small software program that spreads from one computer to another and interferes with computer operation. A computer virus might corrupt or delete data on a computer, use an email program to spread the virus to other computers, or even delete everything on the hard disk.

Computer viruses are frequently spread by attachments in email messages or by instant messaging messages. Therefore, you must never open an email attachment unless you know who sent the message or you are expecting the email attachment. Viruses can be disguised as attachments of funny images, greeting cards, or audio and video files. Computer viruses also spread through downloads on the Internet. They can be hidden in pirated software or in other files or programs that you might download.

What is a Computer Spyware?

A Computer Spyware can install on your computer without your knowledge. These programs can change your computer’s configuration or collect advertising data and personal information like internet surfing habits, user logins, and bank or credit account information. Spyware can track Internet search habits and can also redirect your web browser to a different websites than you intend to go to.

Spyware is mostly classified into four types: adware, system monitors, tracking cookies, and trojans; examples of other notorious types include digital rights management capabilities that “phone home”, keyloggers, rootkits, and web beacons.

Spyware does not necessarily spread in the same way as a virus or worm because infected systems generally do not attempt to transmit or copy the software to other computers. Instead, spyware installs itself on a system by deceiving the user or by exploiting software vulnerabilities.

What is a Computer Malware?

Malware (a portmanteau for malicious software) is any software intentionally designed to cause damage to a computer, server or computer network. Malware does the damage after it is implanted or introduced in some way into a target’s computer and can take the form of executable code, scripts, active content, and other software.

The code is described as computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, ransomware, spyware, adware, and scare-ware among other terms.

Malware has a malicious intent, acting against the interest of the computer user and so does not include software that causes unintentional harm due to some deficiency, which is typically described as a software bug.

Programs officially supplied by companies can be considered malware if they secretly act against the interests of the computer user. For example, Sony sold the Sony rootkit, which contained a Trojan horse embedded into CDs that silently installed and concealed itself on purchasers’ computers with the intention of preventing illicit copying. It also reported on users’ listening habits, and unintentionally created vulnerabilities that were then exploited by unrelated malware.

TESTIMONIALS

What People Are Saying

Last month, my computer was attacked by very dangerous malware and I was very fearful that our personal and business info. was compromised. Once I determined my computer was hacked, I took it to Behrouz and he eliminated the malware from my computer and I have had no problems with my system since then. He is competent, professional and courteous, and he immediately arranged an appointment when I called him to inform him of my computer issues. Plus, once the computer was repaired for a very reasonable price, Behrouz included a year warranty for his work. I feel very fortunate that I found this very talented and conscientious professional and I highly recommend him and PC Expert Services to anyone in our area who needs work on their computer(s).
